The non-invasive cosmetic treatment industry has a seen a surge in demand for treating underarm sweat patches in women.

Women are increasingly becoming conscious of underarm patches, and have begun to look for solutions to solve this condition to improve their appearance and confidence.

Studies have reported that cosmetic clinics across the UK have experienced a surge in demand for treatments that help beautify women’s underarms. The most suitable and effective treatment is provided by using Botox. Our staff at Cheshire Cosmetic, point out that many clients come in, specifically asking for Botox injections to cure underarm sweating. This goes on to show how well informed clients are and how popular Botox has become to treat underarm sweating.

Botox, which has always been associated with treating the effects of ageing (fine lines and wrinkles), can be used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). The treatment itself is very simple and quick. Botox is administered via injection under the arms to combat the functions of over-productive sweat glands. Our Medical Director also states that Botox is very effective in treating excessive sweating and was not surprised when there was a surge in demand for same at our clinic.

“The treatment is very effective and the results last for at least six months. Every client I’ve treated, has revert with great feedback”, adds our Medical Director.

Other treatments that have shown increase in demand are laser hair removal, with patients focusing specifically on underarm hair.

Why not drop by Cheshire Cosmetic and find out out how we can help you, improve your appearance and confidence!

A good skin hair regime can keep your skin healthy and glowing for a long time. The skin is the largest organ in your body and just as in the case of all other organs, requires very good care to ensure that it looks and stays healthy. The best part is, simply sticking to your basics will work wonders. Good skin care and a healthy lifestyle can delay the effects of ageing and also prevent natural skin problems. Here are 5 tips to get you started:

1. Avoid excessive exposure to the sun

This is one of the most important ways you can take care of your skin. Excessive exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots and other skin problems. This can also lead to skin cancer. For effective protection from the sun:

Use sunscreen: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 15, when you are outdoors. Also remember to reapply sunscreen at least every 2 hours (or more) if you are swimming or perspiring.

Seek shade: Avoid exposing yourself to the sun between 10am and 4pm as this is the time when the sun’s rays are strongest.

Protective clothing: Cover your skin with tightly woven, long-sleeved shirts, long pants and wide brimmed hats. It also pays to consider laundry additives that include an additional layer of ultra-violet protection.

2. Quit smoking

Smoking makes your skin look older and induces wrinkling. Smoking causes narrowing of tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of the skin, resulting in decreased blood flow. This depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are important for your skin’s health. Smoking also damages collagen and elastin (i.e. the fibres that give your skin its strength and elasticity). It gets worse – the repetitive facial expressions you make when smoking, such as pursing your lips when inhaling and squinting your eyes to keep out smoke, can contribute to wrinkles.

3. Healthy diets are the way to go

The path to beautiful skin is mostly from the inside. In other words, what you put into your system will show in your skin. A healthy diet can not only make you feel, it can make you look your best as well. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables along with whole grains and lean proteins. A diet rich with Vitamin C, minimal unhealthy fats and refined carbs can promote young looking skin.

4. Treat your skin gently

Daily cleansing and shaving do take their toll on your skin. As a result. it pays to be as gentle as possible.

Avoid long baths: Hot water and long showers/baths remove oils from your skin. Limit your bathing time and opt for warm water rather than hot.

Avoid strong soaps: Strong soaps can strip oil from your skin. Mild cleansers are a much better solution.

Shave carefully: Always use shaving cream, lotion or gel before shaving, to protect and lubricate your skin. Shave in the direction of your hair instead of against it, using a clean sharp razor.

Pat your skin dry: After your shower/bath gently pat your skin dry with a soft towel so that some moisture remains on your skin.

Moisturise: If you have dry skin, use a moisturiser that suits your skin type. Consider one that contains SPF for daily use.

5. Manage your stress

Stress can cause the skin to become more sensitive and trigger acne breakouts and other skin problems. If you are under stress, you need to take active steps to manage your stress to pave for healthy skin and mind.  Set reasonable targets and limits, scale back from your daily tasks and take time to do things that you enjoy. Activities such as spending time with your family, exercising and meditation can work wonders for your skin.

In a world where first impressions and appearance count, dark uneven patches on your skin are definitely a cause for concern. Pigmentation (skin colouring) is dependent on the level of melanin produced in one’s skin. Fluctuations in melanin production levels may cause darker or lighter patches on the skin – excessive production will cause dark patches or hyperpigmentation, while absence or reduction in melanin causes white spots, or lighter areas also known as hypopigmentation.

Pigmentation problems are not really a cause for alarm as they do not have any negative effects on your health.

Cause of Pigmentation Problems

  • Exposure to high levels of Ultra Violet (UV) rays
  • Poor diet – lack of vitamin A, E and B complex
  • Changes in female hormone levels during pregnancy or menopause
  • Excessive use of birth control pills
  • Usage of cosmetic products that cause allergies linked to pigmentation problems
  • Albinism – the most common inheritable cause of pigmentation (i.e. pale skin, pale hair and pale eyes). In this extreme case the patient has very little or no pigmentation

Treating Skin Pigmentation Problems

Treatment for your pigmentation problem is dependent on the exact cause, your skin type and aesthetic objectives. When you first observe or suspect that you have pigmentation problems, immediately consult a qualified and reputed qualified facial plastic surgeon or dermatologist. He/she will ascertain the cause of your problem. Then based on examination of your skin and medical history he/she will suggest a strategy for treating the problem. This consultation will also give you a chance to discuss the risks involved, costs and recovery period associated with the type of treatment proposed.

Types of Treatment

  • Hydroquinone: is a bleaching agent which blocks the production of melanin. It  can be obtained over the counter in weak strengths or by prescription in higher doses. Sometimes it’s used in conjunction with products such as Retin-A to achieve the desired results.
  • Retin-A: is a prescription topical retinoid (derived from Vitamin A) that exfoliates skin and speeds up new skin cell growth, diminishing dark, uneven skin patches along the way. It is available in several strengths and is often prescribed in a step-up fashion. It may be prescribed with Hydroquinone or another suitable bleaching agent.
  • Lumixyl: is a brightening cream that facilitates the reduction of age spots and hyperpigmentation. It is applied topically and sold in physicians’ offices. It reduces melanin, but does not cause irritation or other side effects associated with Hydroquinone or Retin-A.
  • Intense Pulsed Light (IPL): uses broad-spectrum light that filters out unwanted wavelengths to treat a host of skin conditions and abnormalities (i.e. pigmentation problems, age spots, fine lines & wrinkling etc.)

Always remember to consult a qualified and reputed cosmetic surgeon to ensure that your problem is taken care of safely and effectively.

Once you have decided you want to undergo cosmetic treatment, it is normal to have a thousand questions hit you all at once, especially if it is your first time. However, we have a general tendency to shy away from questioning authority as we feel it may annoy the latter or make us seem like “difficult” customers. Always keep in mind that it is your body and you have every right to have all your questions answered prior to treatment.  Here’s a list of questions that are worth going through with your Cosmetic Physician prior to going in for treatment.

  • Physician’s credibility
  1. Is the physician affiliated with any credible Associations?
  2. How often has he/she done the particular cosmetic treatment that you’ve opted for?
  3. How long has he/she been in practice?
  4. Is the clinic up-to-date on modern technology? Is it clean and well maintained?
  • Treatment procedure
  1. Can I see some “before” and “after” photographs of previous treatments?
  2. What are the best and worst case results that are to be expected from the procedure?
  3. How much pain or discomfort is associated with this procedure?
  4. What are the potential risks or complications of this procedure?
  5. How do I prepare myself for the treatment?

10. How much does the procedure cost?

11. Will I require any follow up treatment and is it included in the initial price?

12. Will I have to follow a course of prescription drugs?

  • Post treatment

13. What’s the recovery period like? Will I have to take time work or other normal social activities?

14. What after care habits will I have to adopt?

15. Are there any contact numbers to reach in case of an emergency?

Cosmetic treatments should not be rushed into. Always weigh the pros and cons and decide wisely. Do not rush into it because it is the “in” thing to do and also do not be fooled by cheap gimmicks and DIT kits that are heavily advertised.

Botox helps us fight the good fight – the fight against ageing, in our quest to look younger and fresh. Wrinkles caused by ageing and environmental factors such as excessive sun light, dust and even stress can cause dissatisfaction in one’s appearance. However, thanks to Botox, young, fresh looking skin is just a few simple treatments away.

In this post, we do away with the technical aspects of Botox and shed light on what it means from the patient’s point of view. In other words, we present Botox, in plain English.

What is it and how does it work?

Botulinium Toxin Type A aka Botox, is a sterile and purified toxin that is administered by Cosmetic Physicians via injections into the muscle beneath the skin of the wrinkle affected area. Botox paralyses the small muscles, giving the face a smoother, lifted appearance.

Why is it so popular?

You may wonder why Botox is so “in demand”. Well, there are several attributable factors:

  • No surgery involved – This anti-wrinkle treatment is a simple procedure, which involves identifying areas on your face that are affected by wrinkles, and injecting Botox to these areas.
  • Simple procedure – The treatment lasts 15-30 minutes, doesn’t require anaesthetics and doesn’t involve any type of surgery, hence its categorisation as a non-invasive cosmetic treatment.
  • Minimal recovery time – Besides avoiding strenuous activity, swimming and saunas for 24 hours following treatment there’s no other restrictions to being actively involved in your day-to-day activities. Cosmetic surgeries require rest, leave from work and a lot of care to recover smoothly.
  • Very few side-effects – Botox has been proven to have fewer side effects than most of its anti-ageing counterparts. One may experience mild flu like symptoms, a light headache, or nausea for a day or two. Some people experience tingling, bruising, or light swelling in the area of the injection. However all these side-effects are temporary.
  • Quick results – Usually you will experience visible results with a couple of days of undergoing treatment. And the result last between 3 and 6 months.

There you have it – Botox in a nutshell. Like we said before, we have merely scratched the surface of Botox and you should keep in mind, Botox, just like any other treatment should be administered by suitably qualified and skilled cosmetic practitioners. Do not be fooled by cheap DIY products and “too good to be true” special offers.
