Lines and Wrinkles

The Ageing Face

The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is one of the most common signs of aging. Even though it is a natural process, there are some other environmental factors that can emphasise fine lines and wrinkles such as excessive exposure to the sun , gravity, acne, smoking , muscle movement, injury, stressful life style, or surgery. These skin problems are rated to self –image and age related problems. When you get older your skin starts to get dry and thinner, resulting in the below changes

  • Slowing of the skin cell lifecycle - resulting in a thicker epidermis (superficial layer of dead cells), causing drier and uneven skin texture.
  • Collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis provide skin texture and volume - these fibers begin to break down from around the age of 30, causing fine lines, wrinkles and folds to develop.
  • Muscles underlying the facial skin are responsible for expression. Over activity of such muscles (eg. frowning) creates further wrinkles in the skin . This effect is more noticeable with the advancing of age.
  • Fat pads in the face begin to loose volume and start to descend, causing a sunken appearance with formation of jowls at the jawline.

Fine lines and wrinkles are mostly seen on the forehead, upper lip area and cheek. Usually, they can be noticed first in between the ages of 30 and 35

Treatments For Fine Lines and Wrinkles

There are number of options available for treating of fine lines and wrinkles.

Anti Wrinkle Creams
People often think this to be the easiest way to control the fine lines and wrinkles. There are number of creams available in the market for this common skin problem, however they are a very ineffective method of treating lines and wrinkles.

The biggest disadvantage of anti wrinkles creams is that once stop using them your fine lines and wrinkles will start to appear again.

Chemical Peels
The chemical peel is applied onto the skin, the upper layers of the skin is then peeled off. After that, new skin will grow and replace the old skin. The new skin is much smoother and tighter than the old skin. Some people will get good results from one treatment, while others may need to have few treatments to get the desired results.

Botox Treatment
Botox injections are a very effective treatment for fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead and lip area. You can see a noticeable reduction on fine lines and wrinkles within 3-5 days after having Botox treatment. Repeat treatments are recommended every 3months.

Non Surgical Procedure
Another popular treatment for fine lines and wrinkles is Dermal Fillers. These are injected in to the skins surface where fine lines and wrinkles are to soften the wrinkles. You will see tremendous results with dermal fillers and almost immediately start enjoying a face free of fine lines and wrinkles.
